So there was President Obama, giving his bazillionth speech on health care, droning yet again that "now is the hour when we must seize the moment," the same moment he's been seizing every day of the week for the past year, only this time his genius photo-op guys thought it would look good to have him surrounded by men in white coats.
Why is he doing this? Why let "health care reform" stagger on like the rotting husk in a low-grade creature feature who refuses to stay dead no matter how many stakes you pound through his chest?
Because it's worth it. Big time. I've been saying in this space for two years that the governmentalization of health care is the fastest way to a permanent left-of-center political culture. It redefines the relationship between the citizen and the state in fundamental ways that make limited government all but impossible. In most of the rest of the Western world, there are still nominally "conservative" parties, and they even win elections occasionally, but not to any great effect. (Let's not forget that Jacques Chirac was, in French terms, a "conservative.") The result is a kind of two-party-one-party state: Right-of-center parties once in a while will be in office, but never in power, merely presiding over vast leftist bureaucracies that cruise on regardless.

Most Americans know that Thomas Jefferson was the principal author of The Declaration of Independence, the most important of all our founding documents.
Yet few of them have even heard of another document that I would say might be the second most important declaration he ever wrote: The Kentucky Resolutions of 1798. He drafted them secretly while he was serving as vice president. It was written in response to the hated Alien and Sedition Acts which were passed under the Adams administration during an undeclared war with France.
The acts authorized the president to deport any resident alien considered dangerous to the peace and safety of the United States, to apprehend and deport resident aliens if their home countries were at war with the United States, and criminalized any speech which might defame Congress, the President, or bring either of them into contempt or disrepute. You could compare it to the Patriot Act, but really it was much worse. Either way, The Alien and Sedition Acts were probably Thomas Jefferson’s worst nightmare.
Some people are surprised to learn that in response to these acts, Jefferson did not hold up the First Amendment in protest. Rather he invoked the Tenth Amendment.

According to a recent poll by Rasmussen Reports, 73% of American voters agree that “Washington right now is broken,” as quoted from Vice President Joe Biden not long ago. Even more than that – 75 % – are “angry at the government’s current policies” (including 45% who are “very angry”), and 69% believe the country is heading down the wrong track.
The numbers are interesting, but not surprising: Americans feel that politicians have stolen their country from them, and they want it back. But how, exactly, can they make that happen?
Since last April, many have joined organizations such as “tea party groups” to rally together in opposition to the direction of government. These groups cite the Declaration of Independence which states that “governments…derive their just powers from the consent of the governed.” Ironically, Rasmussen reports that only 21% of Americans today believe the federal government enjoys that consent.

A man of rare courage: Mosab Hassan Yousef
Mosab Hassan Yousef, son a Hamas leader, who became a Christian convert and spy for Israel. His efforts saved countless lives from sucide bombings by misguided martyrs from Gaza.
I have been following for some time the remarkable journey of Mosab Hassan Yousef, about whom I wrote here last year. Yousef, the son of a Hamas leader, renounced not just terrorist violence but his family and his faith to become a Christian and move to California. Since apostasy from Islam carries a death penalty, this in itself was an act of extreme courage. The Telegraph ran an interview with him which set out starkly the extreme risk he was running, along with the principled reasons for his actions:
Mosab Hassan Yousef, 30, said that his decision to abandon his Muslim faith and denounce his father’s organisation had exposed his family to persecution in his home town of Ramallah and endangered his own life.
… ‘I’m not afraid of them, especially as I know that I’m doing the right thing, and I don’t see them as my enemies,’ he said. ‘I do think about this a lot. But what are they going to do? Are they going to kill me? If they want to kill me, let them do it. I’m not going to stop anyone. It’s going to be my freedom.’
… Mr Yousef said that his doubts about Islam and Hamas crystallised when he realised not all Hamas leaders were like his father, a moderate who he describes as ‘open-minded, very humble and honest’. Mr Yousef said that he was appalled by the brutality of the movement, including the suicide bombers seeking glory through jihad. ‘Hamas, they are using civilians’ lives, they are using children, they are using the suffering of people every day to achieve their goals. And this is what I hate,’ he said.
But now we learn that his courage and his principles extended far further than this. As Ha’aretz reports, for ten years Yousef worked for the Israeli security service Shin Bet for whom ....

Massa Hints He Could Rescind Resignation By Jennifer Yachnin
Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.) suggested on a New York radio station Sunday that he could rescind his resignation — scheduled to take effect at 5 p.m. Monday — after asserting that an ethics investigation into allegations that he sexually harassed one of his aides may have been orchestrated by Democratic leaders to get him out of office before the health care vote.
Responding to a caller to his weekly radio show on WKPQ Power 105 FM, a recording of which was made available via the Web site of local station 13 WHAM-TV, Massa said: “I’m not going to be a Congressman as of 5 o’clock [Monday] afternoon. The only way to stop that is for me to rescind my resignation. That’s the only way to stop it. And the only way that’s going to happen is if this becomes a national story.”
During the hour-and-a-half show, Massa said that Democratic leaders are using the House ethics committee to get him out of office before the vote on health care because he voted against the House health care bill last fall.
“Mine is now the deciding vote on the health care bill, and this administration and this House leadership have said, 'they will stop at nothing to pass this health care bill, and now they’ve gotten rid of me and it will pass.’ You connect the dots,” Massa said Several times during the broadcast Massa raised the prospect of rescinding his resignation if national news media picked up on his story of being railroaded out of office by Democratic leaders.

Each new nation will be responsible for its own national defense, welfare system, environmental protection, commerce and treasury. For some states, this would be a blessing. For others, like California and New York, it would be a nightmare.
..... Countries like China would be stuck with worthless Treasury notes, and it would be reluctant to loan money to any of the new 50 nations. Each new nation would have to live by its own means, which is a good thing in the long run.
The biggest benefit to U.S. insolvency is that Congress would go away, and the United Nations headquarters in New York would move to Geneva where it belongs.

Obama was hawking another one of his cost-free, best-of-all-worlds scenarios, one that has been exposed in all its self-deluding inanity in the space of a year. As a writer parodying such magical thinking long ago observed, "Sun-beams may be extracted from cucumbers, but the process is tedious." A sun-beam extraction program might have been just as effective, and nearly as timely. Obama poured $5 billion into weatherization as part of last year's stimulus and wanted to spend billions more in a second stimulus. The Department of Energy managed to get the money to the states, where it has swelled the coffers for weatherization and done little else. According to a Department of Energy report last month, "only 2 of the 10 highest funded recipients completed more than 2 percent of planned units." New York had completed 280 out of 45,400 planned units as of December, Texas had completed 0 of 33,908, and California 12 out of 43,400. That's 292 homes in three states with a total population of roughly 80 million.

Before the rise of Islam, the Middle East had a wide range of religions and cultures. So much so that it is difficult to imagine the world today without the ideas and beliefs that emerged from there. Today however the Middle East has one dominant religion and ethnicity. While there may be numerous countries, they all compromise an Arab Muslim Empire that extends from North Africa to the Gulf. An Empire that with the exception of Israel and Iran consists of one race and one religion, with all others either exterminated or subjugated as second class citizens.
That Empire was built through the ideology of Islam, that provided a manifest destiny to the quarreling Arab tribes who had already begun to overrun the region. Islam began by giving Mohammed and his followers the right to loot and enslave anyone who did not obey them, and ended by turning his cult into a fanatical worldwide movement bent on doing what they had done to the Middle East... to the entire world.
The worldwide spread of Islam has been aided and enabled by the First World's love of multiculturalism and diversity. But as history shows, there is no surer way to destroy cultural and religious diversity, than by introducing Islam in to the mix. The idea that Islam can be an ingredient in a multicultural society is as foolish as the idea that adding a tank full of piranhas to an aquarium will result in species diversity. Because Islam does not participate in the ecology of a multicultural society, it is a predator consuming and destroying cultures and beliefs... and leaving only corpses and frightened victims in its wake.

Lagos, Nigeria (CNN) -- The death toll from weekend violence in central Nigeria climbed to more than 200 Monday after members of a machete-wielding Muslim group attacked mostly Christian villages, officials said.
More than 200 were dead and 32 injured, according to Choji Gyang, a religious affairs adviser to the head of Plateau state, who said bodies were still being recovered. Sani Shehu, president of the non-governmental agency Civil Rights Congress, put the number of dead at about 485 people.

We did it!
It’s all thanks to the action that you took.
Hundreds of thousands of messages poured into the Senate opposing Senator McCain’s bill, the bill that would have wiped out current legislative protections for dietary supplements. More and more messages were arriving by the day. The entire Congress began to take note. Senator McCain was embarrassed by our ad whose headline pointed out that he was misrepresenting and did not seem to understand his own bill.
Word is now racing around Capitol Hill that Senator McCain met with Senator Orin Hatch, a champion of natural medicine, and told him that he is withdrawing his support for the bill he authored, the so-called Dietary Supplement Safety Act (S 3002). This means that the bill as written is now dead.
Is this the end of the story? No. Having given his word to a fellow senator, McCain is not likely to resume his support for the bill. But we do need to see a declaration from McCain himself. We will need to see if McCain will try to offer some modified version of the bill. And there has also been no word from the other co-sponsor of the bill, Senator Dorgan.
We will keep you posted. In the meantime, it is time to celebrate your accomplishment. The democratic process worked. The people spoke and a powerful senator reversed course. It was all because of you, the active citizens willing to take time and make the effort to defend natural and sustainable forms of health and healthcare in the often hostile environment of Washington, DC. As we all know, Washington is ringed today with special commercial interests. They have millions of dollars of campaign contributions to hand out and gigantic lobbying budgets. There are news reports that Jordan's King told the Palestinian Authority's Abbas that Israel is threatening the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and that some unspecified action should be taken to protect Muslim sites in East Jerusalem.
With these statements, the King earned himself the Chutzpah Man of the Year Award.
You see Jordan, is the country that expelled (and killed) Jews who had resided in Old City's Jewish Quarter. And from 1948 until Israel freed the Old City and unified it, Jews (and most Christians) were not allowed access to the Old City. Moreover, since 1967, under the governance of the State of Israel, Muslims have been given control over all their holy sites. Their control is so great that they have used it to destroy tons of antiquities from the days of Solomon's Temple and they control who can visit the Holy Temple Mount.
Given this historical and current record, the King of Jordan should be thanking the State of Israel for protecting Muslim holy sites and for allowing all people to peacefully visit the Old City.But he won't acknowledge Israel's contributions in this area. Instead he will instigate trouble while calling on the "international community" to take control of Jerusalem. Given the mindset of the Obama Administration it will require a strong response by supporters of a united Jerusalem to stop the Jordan, Palestinian attempt to undermine Israeli control.
The King also criticized Israel's decision to declare biblical sites as being part of the Jewish people's heritage. Chutzpah Personified.

Pro-Israel activists have had no higher priority during the 111th Congress than imposing strong new sanctions on Iran's rulers. In a Congress riven by deep divisions and significant gridlock, two instances of bipartisan consensus and cooperation stand out:
1) On December 15, the House of Representatives passed HR 2194, the Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act, by a vote of 412-12.
2) On January 28, the Senate passed the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act on a unanimous vote.
But instead of moving swiftly to reconcile their similar but not identical bills - after which the final versions could be quickly passed and sent to the President - Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are sitting on the legislation.
Foreign Policy magazine reports that Reid and Pelosi are "waiting for the administration to negotiate a deal at the UN."
Based on Secretary of State Clinton's statement this week that the diplomatic effort will be made" sometime in the next several months," the Reid/Pelosi waiting game is a deep freeze for Iran sanctions legislation.

Left-wing intellectuals have intellect in abundance—intelligence, not so much—and are notoriously lacking when it comes to wisdom.
So what do left-wing intellectuals, possessing fine intellects—but only rudimentary intelligence, and no wisdom—actually do? Well, they think a lot. They come up with ideas and “notions.” The folks who “ooo” and “ahhh” at the notions that intellectuals arrive at, are called the “intelligentsia.” The intelligentsia not only “ooo” and “ahhh,” but they also try to introduce the intellectual’s ideas into society at large.
The right-wing, of course, has its own intellectuals—notable examples being Adam Smith, Edmund Burke, F.A. Hayek, Milton Friedman, and Thomas Sowell himself. (By the way, “Intellectuals and Society” is not only very informative, but it’s written with the lay reader in mind).
Because right-wing intellectuals generally introduce intelligence and wisdom into their ideas, they are fewer in number than the “dime a dozen” left-wing variety. Also, we should take into account the long-standing animosity toward conservatives in academia, and the press. All this has resulted in a plethora of left-wing intellectuals, and a relative dearth of right-wing intellectuals. .....

MOSAB: My conscience is not the same. This doesn’t mean that I became a perfect person but at least when I do a mistake I know how to fix it and avoid it in the future. Today, I am free from sin because I am the son of the King. When I first understood how religion is imperfect in general — and in Islam in particular — and allowed myself to accept Christ as my personal Savior and get out of the box of religion, not only did Israel look different to me, I started to see everything differently.

You'd think the Obama administration is busy enough controlling the banks, insurance companies and automakers, but thanks to whistleblowers at the Department of the Interior, we now learn they're planning to increase their control over energy-rich land in the West.
A secret administration memo has surfaced revealing plans for the federal government to seize more than 10 million acres from Montana to New Mexico, halting job- creating activities like ranching, forestry, mining and energy development. Worse, this land grab would dry up tax revenue that's essential for funding schools, firehouses and community centers.
President Obama could enact the plans in this memo with just the stroke of a pen, without any input from the communities affected by it.
At a time when our national unemployment rate is 9.7 percent, it is unbelievable anyone would be looking to stop job-creating energy enterprises, yet that's exactly what's happening.
The document lists 14 properties that, according to the document, "might be good candidates" for Mr. Obama to nab through presidential proclamation. Apparently, Washington bureaucrats believe it's more important to preserve grass and rocks for birdwatchers and backpackers than to keep these local economies thriving.
Administration officials claim the document is merely the product of a brainstorming session, but anyone who reads this memo can see that it is a wish list for the environmentalist left. It discusses, in detail, what kinds of animal populations would benefit from limiting human activity in those areas.
The 21-page document, marked "Internal Draft-NOT FOR RELEASE," names 14 different lands Mr. Obama could completely close for development by unilaterally designating them as "monuments" under the 1906 Antiquities Act.
It says all kinds of animals would be better off by doing so, like the coyotes, badgers, grouse, chickens and lizards. But giving the chickens more room to roost is no reason for the government to override states' rights.
Rep. Robert Bishop, Utah Republican, made the memo public because he didn't want another unilateral land grab by the White House, like what happened under former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.

Denver Post (3/3) reports, “Venoco, which is run by Denver philanthropist Tim Marquez, has an initiative on Carpinteria 's June ballot to rewrite the city's zoning ordinance and require the city to give the company development permits. Voters should have a voice on the project, which could provide the town with $200 million in royalties over 20 years, said Lisa Rivas, a Venoco community-relations specialist. The city has spent $317,000 fighting the initiative in court. Venoco has raised a $205,000 ballot war chest, according to campaign-finance reports. The company has been trying to develop the so-called Paredon Project in Carpinteria for more than five years. "The initiative was an act of desperation," said Nathan Alley, an attorney for the Santa Barbara-based Environmental Defense Center, which represents two Carpinteria groups opposing Paredon. The plan is to drill directionally from Venoco's 45-acre oil-and-gas-processing facility on the shore into leases in the Santa Barbara Channel. "This has been evaluated as the safest way to get the resource to land," Venoco's Rivas said.

Bunning Defends His Position By Mark Memmott
On the floor of the Senate, Republican Jim Bunning of Kentucky just defended the position he's taken that has delayed an extension of jobless benefits for the nation's unemployed and has forced the furlough of about 2,000 federal workers.
Saying that he has blocked votes on the legislation to underscore his opposition to the ongoing growth in federal debt, Bunning read a letter from "Robert in Louisville," who told the senator that even though he hasn't been working regularly in the past two years he supports what Bunning is doing.
"This country is sooner or later going to implode because of the massive amount of debt run up over the past 40 or 50 years," Robert wrote, according to Bunning.

Government Study in Britain Confirms So-Called “Green” Biofuels Emit More Lifecycle Carbon than Gas, Diesel -- A Lot More. The (UK) Times (3/1) reports, “Using fossil fuel in vehicles is better for the environment than so-called green fuels made from crops, according to a government study seen by The Times. The findings show that the Department for Transport’s target for raising the level of biofuel in all fuel sold in Britain will result in millions of acres of forest being logged or burnt down and converted to plantations. The study concludes that some of the most commonly-used biofuel crops fail to meet the minimum sustainability standard set by the European Commission. Under the standard, each litre of biofuel should reduce emissions by at least 35 per cent compared with burning a litre of fossil fuel. Yet the study shows that palm oil increases emissions by 31 per cent because of the carbon released when forest and grassland is turned into plantations. Rape seed and soy also fail to meet the standard. The EC hopes to protect its biofuel target by issuing revised standards that would give palm plantations the same status as natural forests. Officials appear to have accepted arguments put forward by the palm oil industry that palms are just another type of tree.
Big Wind Demands Separate Set of Rules Apply to Them in Texas – Don’t Want to Be Punished When They Fail to Deliver the Power They Promised. Wall Street Journal (3/2) reports, “At the heart of the battle is a fight over the vicissitudes of wind itself. The wind industry argues that since it can't control when the wind blows, it shouldn't be held to the same rules that require everyone else to make payments when they fail to deliver promised power. The natural-gas generators say everyone should operate under the same rules, and lament that wind's success is merely coming at the expense of another relatively clean energy source. Similar fights are shaping up elsewhere. In the Midwest and Wyoming, fossil-fuel companies are questioning whether wind is getting too many advantages from government. "What wind is doing is giving us the feeling that we're making progress displacing carbon, when in fact it isn't displacing coal plants. It is getting rid of your cleanest fossil-fuel source"—natural gas, says Kevin Forbes, of Catholic University. "And it is making the challenge of running a grid much more challenging, because you never know when your forecast for the wind is right or wrong. You are flying blind."

This is a great article from al-Watan Voice, in which the author makes a passionate plea for a turn to secularism in the Islamic world. He concludes that a moderate Muslim and an extremist Muslim are not really very different from each other, as a moderate can transform into an extremist or terrorist "in a single night" of studying the Qur'an or attending studies at the mosque. He also challenges his readers to think of any good inventions or scientific discoveries to come from the Muslim world in the past few hundred years. He's right on with almost all of this, but of course bringing this up in the West will result in you being branded an Islamophobe or put on trial for hate speech. Link to original Arabic.

More often than not, such stories come to us from foreign news agencies. If not for the Internet, we would never know about these incidents, because the U.S. news media do not choose to tell us about these things.
This is certainly the case with this article about the al Qaeda affiliate in the Philippines, Abu Sayyaf, published by the French news agency, AFP.
This article is noteworthy for a variety of reasons:
1. Most Americans are completely unaware that the global jihadist insurgency is waging a violent jihad in the Philippines in which thousands of innocent civilians have been killed over the years.
2. This insurgency flies in the face of those who insist that the source of all jihadi activity is America's support for Israel. No one can make the case that Muslim jihadist terrorists are killing civilians in the Philippines because America supports Israel.
3. The war in the Philippines also goes against the narrative from the "blame America first" crowd on the right and left of the political spectrum that the cause of Jihadi terrorism is the presence of U.S. troops in Iraq, Afghanistan or anywhere else. The insurgency in the Philippines pre-dates 9/11, the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, and Operation Enduring Freedom. And, of course, Manila is several thousand miles away from the Arabian Peninsula. Clearly, there must be something else at work here!

(IsraelNN.com) The security camera footage of the assassins who eliminated Hamas terrorist Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh did not surprise the operation's planners, according to Menachem Landau, a former senior officer in the Israel Security Agency (also known as Shin Bet).
Speaking to Arutz Sheva's Hebrew news magazine, Landau was careful to note that he does not know who carried out the assassination, but said that “there is no doubt that whoever did it is a professional.”
"He did a good job,” he added. The speculation that Mossad was behind the operation improved Mossad's status, Landau estimated: “Ambiguousness is power,” he said. “It undoubtedly raises the level of deterrence.”
"All the people who yammer, I would say, about the matter, saying there was a foul-up – are talking nonsense,” he said. “When you prepare for an operation of this sort – any organization that prepares for this kind of operation, it is not as if someone gets up in the morning and gets on a plane and does what he does.”

America is further upstream and can still pull for shore, but has decided, instead, that what it needs to do is catch up with the Greek canoe. Chapter One (the introduction of unsustainable entitlements) leads eventually to Chapter 20 (total societal collapse): The Greeks are at Chapter 17 or 18.

While Americans continue to fight the government takeover of our health care, Senator John McCain announced his plan for the government to regulate all dietary supplements. His Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010 calls upon the FDA to regulate dietary supplements as if they are drugs. The language is so sweeping that the FDA would have a free hand to regulate all food products, which are manufactured to supplement nutrition.
Why is McCain doing this? Who benefits? The two biggest beneficiaries are large dietary supplement companies that already have a foothold in the market place and can afford the costs involved in meeting the proposed new standards and pharmaceutical companies who don’t want competition from alternative medicine claims.
Under the provision of the bill, new supplements may be arbitrarily banned by the FDA or adopted by drug companies in a way that would stop them from being sold as supplements at a lower price. The FDA’s relationship with the drug companies is very cozy since they pay its bills.
McCain and his co-sponsor are concerned about the harm the unregulated dietary supplement market is causing. More people are harmed from legal and illegal drugs than they are from supplements. This bill, which overturns some of the protections of a 1994 bill, will only create a black market for vitamins and other supplements. The “war on drugs” will expand to include you, your aging parents, and grandparents.

Obama's internet outreach during his campaign, Obama for America, has been renamed Organizing for America (OFA) in order to recruit students to join a cult of Obama and become activists for his goals. Geller discovered that the teacher of an 11th-grade government class in Massillon, Ohio, passed out the sign-up sheet, headed with Obama's "O" logo, asking students to become interns for Organizing for America.
These interns will be given an intensive nine-week training course using comprehensive lesson plans. Assigned readings include Saul Alinsky's notorious Rules for Radicals, Stir It Up: Lessons from Community Organizing and Advocacy by the left-wing activist Rinku Sen, and particular sections of Dreams From My Father dealing with Obama's days as a community organizer in Chicago.
Republican students will be filtered out of the intern program by requiring applicants to answer questions that reveal their politics. One example is, "What one issue facing our country is important to you and why?"
Geller said the purpose of this training to become Alinsky-style community organizers, is "of course, to elect more Democrats." The internship program is specifically geared to get the kids working in the 2010 elections.

There is something pathetic about what passes as European foreign policy these days. Quite simply, more often than not, the concerted positions of the EU member nations have nothing to do with any of their national interests.
Take the EU’s initial response to the killing of Hamas terror-master Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai on January 19. A senior terrorist engaging in the illegal purchase of illicit arms from Iran for Hamas-controlled Gaza is killed in his hotel room. The same Dubai authorities who had no problem with hosting a wanted international terrorist worked themselves into a frenzy condemning his killing. And of course, despite the fact that any number of governments, (Egypt and Jordan come to mind), and rival terrorist organizations, (Fatah, anyone?) had ample reason to wish to see Mabhouh dead, Dubai’s police chief Lt.-Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim blamed Israel.
Not only did he blame Israel, to substantiate his claims, Tamim released what he said was video footage of alleged Mossad operatives who entered Dubai with European and Australian passports.
Relying only on Tamim’s allegations, EU leaders went into high dudgeon. Ignoring the nature of the operation, the basic lack of credibility of the source of information, and the interests of Europe in defeating jihadist terrorism in the Middle East and worldwide, the chanceries of Europe squawked indignantly and threatened to cut off intelligence cooperation with Israel.

George Soros, the Democratic Party's Progressive Puppet Master , is often referred to as the "man who broke the bank of England" in the 1992 Sterling crisis. During that crisis, he made $1 billion in one day at the expense of British taxpayers. At the time Soros was suspected of dealing based on inside information.The rumor then was that Soros was acting on insider information obtained from the French central bank and the German Bundesbank. The insider information was that they would not support the British pound, despite a pre-existing arrangement to do so.
Given that Mr. Soros is no fool, the British believe it is highly doubtful he would have made such a colossal bet without knowing with great certainty that the Germans would not reduce their interest rate.
Soros, a self-admitted Nazi collaborator, has a reputation for trading on confidential information obtained from political sources. For instance, he was convicted by a French court of having insider knowledge about a takeover attempt of a major French bank. His conviction was upheld in 2006, and he had to pay a multimillion-dollar fine.

The complaint also asserts "when Obama was born his father was a British subject/citizen and Obama himself was the same." The case contends the framers of the U.S. Constitution, when they adopted the requirement that a president be a "natural born citizen," excluded dual citizens.

Iran Threatens To 'Freeze' Europe for Backing Sanctions by Maayana Miskin
(IsraelNN.com) Brigadier-General Hossein Salami of Iran's Revolutionary Guard warned Sunday that Iran has the power to cut Europe's energy supply. The warning was issued as European leaders prepared to debate sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.
"Iran sits on 50 percent of the world's energy, and if it wants, Europe will spend the winter in the cold,” Salami told Iranian troops in the city of Kerman. His speech was published by the Iranian Fars news agency.
Iran is in possession of roughly 16 percent of the world's natural gas and is the fourth-largest exporter of crude oil. In addition, Iran borders the Strait of Hormuz (Persian Gulf), through which much of the world's oil supply passes.
Salami also mentioned Iran's missiles. The country has recently tested long-range missiles, and announced just weeks ago that it had launched a satellite-capable rocket.
"Our missiles are now able to target any spot which the conspirators are in,” he said.

In Turkey's English Daily, Keith Ellison, the only devout Muslim member of Congress, was asked about how he would vote on Armenian Genocide Resolution. An interesting question to pose to a Muslim, considering it was a jihad against millions of Armenians.
It was the genocide that preceded the Holocaust. The Mufti of Jerusalem practiced genocide first in the Armenian genocide -- the systematic genocide of the Armenian population under the Islamic Ottoman Empire during and just after World War I. The use of massacres and deportations involving forced marches under conditions designed to lead to the death of the deportees led to a total number of Armenian deaths of one-and-a-half to two million. Mufti Amin Al-Husseini swore allegiance to the Ottoman Empire during the Armenian genocide [i] . [ii] He was an officer stationed in Smyrna and participates first-hand in the Armenian genocide. One and a half million Christians were slaughtered under the sword of Islamic Jihad by the Ottoman Army. Allegiance to Ottoman Empire and Islamic world take-over was echoed by Osama Bin Laden in his post-September 11 declaration. Osama Bin Laden makes direct reference to the end of Ottoman Empire and thus proclaims his allegiance to its notion of Islamic dominion.
Ellison's answer to the question of how he would vote on the House Foreign Relations Committee's Armenian Genocide Resolution, H. Res. 252, on March 4th, is particularly disgusting - not because he slithers out, "I am still developing my position. I would like to know how this affects Turkey and Armenia’s relationship. Is it going to help the relationship, improve it or degrade it? I need to know the answer on that before I decide on this resolution...." What difference does that make? A genocide is a genocide, no matter what. Period. What contempt the devout Ellison has for the Christian dead. It was jihad and Ellison is a believer.

Toward a New Kind of Israeli Prime Minister Prof. Paul Eidelberg
From time to time I feel compelled to write about the lack of Jewish honor displayed by Israeli prime ministers. Never is this more timely than on Purim, which dramatizes Mordechai’s refusal to bow down to Haman, the enemy of the Jewish people. Mordechai reminds me of an incident that took place in the Land of Israel in 1929.
In that year, the Arabs, with British connivance, indulged in an orgy of rape and murder that destroyed the ancient community in Hebron. The British mandatory government invited prominent Jews to Government House, presumably to express condolences for the pogrom which included the most savage mutilation of men, women, and children. When the British Secretary of the Mandatory Government extended his hand to greet Chief Rabbi Avraham Yitzhak Kook, the religious leader of the Yishuv, that great Rabbi refused the handshake saying it was a hand “besmirched with Jewish blood.”
Contrast the behavior of Israeli prime ministers who have shaken hands with Yasser Arafat and Mahmoud Abbas, both responsible for the murder of so many Jewish men, women, and children.
Frankly, I do not see how this country can long survive with such prime ministers, that is, without proud, Torah-oriented at the helm. It matters not whether this or that prime minister is a “nationalist.” Indeed, what is a Jewish nationalist if he does not uphold that which created and preserved the Jews as a nation: the Torah?
On the other hand, I do not believe that Israel’s salvation depends on a religious prime minister, unless he is learned in the rigorous sciences. Only such a prime minister can reveal Biblical Hebrew as the one and only designed and mathematically precise language, a language that encodes, in the letters and words of the Torah, basic principles of science—today the paradigm of true knowledge. Only such a prime minister can overcome Israel’s secular-religious divide and unite the Jewish people.
Israel has a number of scientists who are revealing the convergence of science and Torah, but their findings have reached only a small number of people. This is why I have often urged the formation of a team of professional individuals to seek out a person whose knowledge of Torah and science will enable him to win the support of both religious and presently non-religious Jews.
It is thoughtless and misleading to hail this or that person as “Israel’s next prime minister” merely because he supports a “nationalist” or even a “faith-based” agenda. If Moses could decline the leadership of the people of Israel, we should be skeptical of anyone that poses as Israel’s savior. Israel cannot afford another vain or semi-educated politician at the helm.
Let us bear in mind that two Likud prime ministers—reputed “nationalists”—advocated the establishment of an Arab-Islamic state in the heartland of the Jewish people. One had the audacity to unequivocally repudiate the Covenant between God and the fathers of the Jewish people—and did so, no less, at a religious university! Steeped in arrogance and ignorance, such prime ministers would emasculate Israel, would empty Israel of all meaning and purpose (Gen. 1:2).
Israel under such prime ministers cannot possibly persevere vis-à-vis 1.5 billion Muslims dedicated to Israel’s annihilation. The only effective way of putting an end to Islam’s threat to Israel, as well as its unceasing invasion of the West, is to enlighten civilized humanity by revealing the convergence of science and Torah. Israel has the intellectual means of doing this. Indeed, therein is the hidden reason for Israel’s surpassing achievements in the life sciences—a manifestation of Israel’s love of life as opposed to Islam’s love of death.
So let us find and rally behind a new kind of prime minister, a person learned in Torah and science.

There are no two ways about it -- the health care summit that took place Thursday in Washington was a sham and a farce. But it's a fitting chapter for the bill being debated.
Barack Obama invited various congressmen to join him for a "discussion" about his latest health care takeover plot, which looks an awful lot like last year's Senate proposal, only more expensive. Obama released his "new" plan Monday to great fanfare, though there was precious little new about it.
About one new feature, the Associated Press editorialized, the proposal "would allow the government to deny or roll back egregious insurance premium increases that infuriated consumers" via a seven-member panel of all-knowing insurance premium gurus. Funny thing is that all 50 states already require insurance companies to justify premium increases. Obama's proposal amounts to little more than federal price controls. Yet with his best Wizard of Oz impression (pay no attention to the stuff behind the curtain), Obama asserted, "Contrary to the claims of some of my critics, I am an ardent believer in the free market." Sure -- if you say so.

Imagine tons of explosives being stolen in Mexico and then transported by truck across the border into the United States. Could it happen? Over the weekend, it did. Almost.
On Friday, according to an article in the Latin American Herald Tribune, 18 tons of industrial explosives were stolen from a cargo container during a robbery along the Monterrey-Saltillo Highway in the northern Mexico state of Nuevo Leon. According to subsequent reports, Mexican officials located and recovered the stolen explosives within hours. The thieves, however, remain at large.
But should Americans rest easy now? Not after this near-miss event.
According to officials with the Mexican industry association, Canacar, thefts from cargo trucks on Mexico’s highways increased 40 percent last year.
North of the border, officials with the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association are calling upon the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to immediately challenge the legality of the tariffs implemented one year ago by Mexico so that the debate regarding cross-border trucking with Mexico can be shifted from economics to highway safety and security.
Top US Marine rejects Obama plan to repeal gay ban
The head of the US Marines said on Thursday he opposed ending the ban on gays serving openly in the military, the first top officer to break openly with President Barack Obama over the issue.
General James Conway told the Senate Armed Services Committee that he disagreed with Obama's plan to repeal the ban.
"My best military advice to this committee, to the (defense) secretary, and to the president would be to keep the law such as it is."
Conway said the current policy worked and any bid to lift the ban should answer the question: "do we somehow enhance the war fighting capabilities of the United States Marine Corps by allowing homosexuals to openly serve?"

As ACORN pretends to “dissolve” around the country, internally, there appears to be a mad dash to get out ahead of prosecution. Not surprisingly, ACORN has a history of shutting offices down when an investigation gets too close. The 54 Democrat members of Congress (no Republicans) who signed the January 21, 2010 letter to President Barack Obama initiated by Reps. Jim McDermott (D-WA) and Keith Ellison (D-MN) presumably wanted to make a thoughtful, serious statement of concern and a specific request for action. They were concerned for the plight of the Palestinians in Gaza and their request was that American government pressure be brought to bear on Israel to ease the restrictions on Israel's border with Gaza.
The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) took the letter and its words seriously. We saw that the 'Gaza 54' called for the loosening of security measures that Israel put into place to stop terrorism and reduce the ability of Hamas to launch attacks on Israel. The letter acknowledged that "the Israeli government has imposed restrictions on Gaza out of a legitimate and keenly felt fear of continued terrorist action by Hamas and other militant groups." But the congressmen did not make any mention of the potential consequences for Israel, or what alternate measures would provide equal protection for Israel's citizens against attacks initiated from Gaza.

This is at best, naïve. Israel can't afford to relax its security measures just because someone in the US says it will all be okay. Its enemies' commitment to its destruction has not waned. Loosening the "blockade" will not persuade Hamas to change its goals nor deter it from attacking.
THE DEMOCRATS' letter effectively demonstrates a mind-set all too typical of the Left, which we are seeing increasingly in more "mainstream" discourse: that Israel is doing wrong, Israel must make concessions, Israel is not acting morally except when it gives in. Unfortunately, history teaches us that appeasement leads to more violence, not less. The fact that so many Democrats signed the letter is troubling in and of itself.

Fortunately, this stuff has not done actual damage in the real world--much of it has not been implemented in policy--yet but may in future.

Now there's an obvious paradox in a man whose own post is defined by counterterrorism, arguing that terrorism can never be defeated. Back when the USSR forged its pact with Nazi Germany, the Soviet propaganda machine propounded that they were not at war with "fascism", as "isms" could not be defeated. Similar defeatist arguments were used by Western governments to argue that Communism was another "ism" and Isms could not be defeated.
Both arguments were of course proven wrong, because you can defeat an "Ism" by bringing down the system and country that most exemplifies it, thereby devaluing it as a political or ideological strategy at least for some time to come. That in turn is exactly why Muslim terrorism is targeting America, because we exemplify a society that blends human freedoms, popular representation and free enterprise. If they can corrupt, destroy or bring down America, they will have come one step closer to demonstrating that there is no alternative to accepting Islam.

Report: Son of Hamas Founder Was Top Israeli Agent
The son of a Hamas founder who later converted to Christianity was a top Shin Bet agent, Haaretz reports.Mosab Hassan Yousef is the son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a Hamas founder and one of its leaders in the West Bank. The intelligence he supplied Israel led to the exposure of a number of terrorist cells, and to the prevention of dozens of suicide bombings and assassination attempts on Israeli figures.
The exclusive story will appear in this Friday's Haaretz Magazine, and Yousef's memoir, "Son of Hamas" (written with Ron Brackin) will be released next week in the United States. Yousef, 32, became a devout Christian 10 years ago and now lives in California after fleeing the West Bank in 2007 and going public with his conversion.

The City of David in the Kidron valley includes Silwan which has about 14,000 Arabs residents and 500 Jewish residents. It is about 300 yards from the Old City. Silwan sits on a very important archaeological site. Many believe, or at least hope, that excavations there will uncover evidence of King David’s palace. The municipality of Jerusalem has developed plans to make this area into an archaeological park. These plans involved the demolition of 88 Arab homes all of which were built without permits. Beit Yonatan, also built without a permit, is part of this story.
The Supreme Court has ordered it be shuttered and Nir Barkat, the Mayor has refused to do it arguing that if he is forced to do it then he will demolish 78 Arab homes for which orders have been issued. He argues he law should be enforced equally. Currently everyone is negotiating a compromise except for the leftist city solicitor who is opposing the Mayor.
In the nineteenth century this was a Jewish Yemenite Village. During the 1930’s Arabs began to settle the area. Before a single Arab family lived in Silwan (Shiloach) it was a thriving Yemenite village with 200 families and 5 Synagogues. Population at its peak prior to Arab riots and pogroms, which decimated the Jewish neighburhood - 900 Jewish residents.
The last 35 families were “removed” by British who were unable to protect the families or properties in August 1938. (British High Commissioner promises/hopes in formal letter to Jewish authorities that “Jewish refugees” will be able to return shortly !!!!)
Only 7 out of 657 Arab built homes in Silwan are legal. In 2004, 28 demolition orders were issued in “Kings Garden” and 77 demolition orders in Silwan. But they are not being enforced. “Kings Garden” is intended as a green zoned area of roads and historical parkland.

"If you take Denmark, it started to become very expensive for the state budget to pay these feed-in tariffs. You can't hide the fact that it costs money, whether it's the utility, finance ministry or the customer paying it. It will be interesting to see if wind power subsidies will really manage to be unchanged in Spain despite the problems there with the budget deficit." Spain, which has been in recession since the second quarter of 2008 and has the euro zone's third-largest budget deficit, has promised renewable energy companies €5.9 billion this year from revenue collected from tariffs, a 63 percent increase from €3.6 billion in 2009, according to a proposal put forth by the Industry Ministry in December. To pay for the subsidy, the ministry proposed raising tariffs on access to the distribution network by an average of 16.2 percent. Spain cut subsidies for solar power last year and is negotiating with the industry further cuts for 2012.

To really understand the mood and tone of CPAC, you really need to walk the halls, speak to the attendees watch the movies etc. Its one of the things most of the people who covered the event tried to do.

Do not judge him as harshly as he speaks of others. Nothing prepared him for the unnerving horror of encountering disagreement. Were it settled, we would be spared the hyperbole that amounts to Ring Lardner's "Shut up, he explained."
The global warming industry, like Alexander in the famous children's story, is having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Actually, a bad three months, which began Nov. 19 with the publication of e-mails indicating attempts by scientists to massage data and suppress dissent in order to strengthen "evidence" of global warming.
But there already supposedly was a broad, deep and unassailable consensus. Strange.
Next came the failure of The World's Last -- We Really, Really Mean It -- Chance, a.k.a. the Copenhagen climate change summit. It was a nullity, and since then things have been getting worse for those trying to stampede the world into a spasm of prophylactic statism.

"Suppose you suggest to a congressman that given our budget crisis, we could save some money by dispensing with the 2010 census. I guarantee you that he'll say something along the lines that the Constitution mandates a decennial counting of the American people and he would be absolutely right. Article I, Section 2 of our Constitution reads: 'The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.' What purpose did the Constitution's framers have in mind ordering an enumeration or count of the American people every 10 years? The purpose of the headcount is to apportion the number of seats in the House of Representatives and derived from that, along with two senators from each state, the number of electors to the Electoral College. The Census Bureau tells us that this year, it will use a shorter questionnaire, consisting of only 10 questions. From what I see, only one of them serves the constitutional purpose of enumeration -- namely, 'How many people were living or staying at this house, apartment or mobile home on April 1, 2010?' The Census Bureau's shorter questionnaire claim is deceptive at best. The American Community Survey, long form, that used to be sent to 1 in 6 households during the decennial count, is now being sent to many people every year. Here's a brief sample of its questions, and I want someone to tell me which question serves the constitutional function of apportioning the number of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives: Does this house, apartment, or mobile home have hot and cold running water, a flush toilet, a bathtub or shower, a sink with a faucet, a refrigerator, a stove? Last month, what was the cost of electricity for this house, apartment, or mobile home? How many times has this person been married? After each question, the Bureau of the Census provides a statement of how the answer meets a federal need. I would prefer that they provide a statement of how answers to the questions meet the constitutional need as expressed in Article I, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution. ... Americans need to stand up to Washington's intrusion into our private lives. ... Unless a census taker can show me a constitutional requirement, the only information I plan to give are the number and names of the people in my household."

(IsraelNN.com) Hebrew University archaeologists have revealed an ancient path in Jerusalem believed to date back to the time of King Solomon, along with structures including a gateway and the foundation of a building. Dr. Eilat Mazar, the leader of the archaeological dig, said the findings match finds from the time of the First Temple.
The latest find includes a 70-meter long and six-meter-high stone wall, a small house adjacent to a gateway leading to what was once the royal courtyard, a building that served city officials, and a tower that overlooked the Kidron river.
Orlev Adopts The Israeli Initiative's Vision
MK Zevulun Orlev (HaBayit HaYehudi) has adopted The Israeli Initiative's solution to the Palestinian problem.
Orlev participated in a series of interviews, in which Israel National News (Arutz 7) spoke to people involved in Israeli politics, seeking alternatives to a two-state solution. Orlev presented his vision for Israel, in which he recognizes that there is a relatively large population of Arabs in Judea and Samaria that deserve a nationality. However, since a Palestinian State is not at all realistic, we should look to Jordan for a solution.
Orlev explained that Jordan needs to take responsibility for the Arab residents of the region and grant them citizenship. The Arabs of Judea and Samaria will have the right to vote and use Jordanian currency, and Israel will be responsible for regional security. In this way, Israel will maintain its right to Judea and Samaria, but will prevent the establishment of a terrorist state.
The Israeli Initiative's ideas have now been adopted by one of Israel's veteran politicians. Although The Israeli Initiative was the official plan of the National Union faction in the previous Knesset, which Orlev had been a member of, this is the first time he has expressed public support for it. Until now, only MK Aryeh Eldad had mentioned Jordan as a possible solution. Orlev speaking up is a major step towards convincing the general public to oppose a two-state solution.
Although The Israeli Initiative is as relevant to the political left as it is to the right, we have recently seen many right-wing politicians trying to raise its points in public. An alternative plan for Israel is important as it has ever been.

(IsraelNN.com) Researchers at Haifa University have discovered that non-native speakers of Hebrew understand the language best when it is spoken in their own accent. A study showed that among non-native speakers, accented Hebrew matching the listener's own was more easily understood than Hebrew spoken with no accent.
The study was conducted among 60 participants aged 18-26. Participants were split into three groups: native Hebrew speakers, immigrants from the former Soviet Union, and Israeli Arabs who began learning Hebrew only in elementary school.
